Hindi word
yār
“friend / buddy” in English
Literally: “friend” or “companion.”
Far more than “friend” — it’s the warm verbal tic of closeness, dropped into a sentence the way English drops “man” or “dude.” “अरे यार” (come on, man), “यार, मैं थक गया” (I’m so tired, yaar). It softens a complaint, adds affection, or just fills the space between friends. You’d never use it with an elder.
